About SoFi Stadium

SoFi Stadium is a sports and entertainment complex in Inglewood, California, occupying the former site of the Hollywood Park Racetrack. It is shared by the Los Angeles Rams and Los Angeles Chargers of the National Football League (NFL). Opened in 2020, it is the most expensive stadium ever built.

The stadium features a fixed, translucent ETFE roof designed to cover the stadium bowl and the adjacent plaza while allowing for outdoor air flow. The centerpiece is the "Infinity Screen" by Samsung, an ovular, double-sided 4K HDR video board suspended from the roof, weighing 2.2 million pounds. The stadium sits below ground level to adhere to flight path restrictions from nearby LAX.

SoFi hosted Super Bowl LVI in 2022, where the Rams won the title on their home turf. The venue is a masterpiece of engineering and design, anchoring a massive mixed-use development comprising retail, office, and residential space. It represents the future of integrated sports entertainment districts.

The venue is owned by Kroenke Sports & Entertainment, the Denver-based holding company of billionaire Stan Kroenke, who acquired majority ownership of the Rams in 2010 and financed the entire 5.5-billion-dollar construction personally without any public subsidy from the City of Inglewood or Los Angeles County. Kroenke is married to Ann Walton Kroenke, an heir to the Walmart fortune, and their combined net worth exceeds 20 billion dollars. The Chargers organisation, controlled by the Spanos family since 1984 through their Dean Spanos-led holding, pays Kroenke annual rent of approximately 1 dollar under a partnership agreement finalised in January 2017, but contributes to shared operating costs proportional to home-game usage. The SoFi Technologies naming-rights deal signed in September 2019 for 400 million dollars across twenty years is currently the largest active naming contract in the NFL.

🛰️ Satellite Identification Tips

At zoom 16, SoFi Stadium is an enormous, futuristic structure in Inglewood, California, immediately recognisable by its swooping, translucent ETFE canopy that extends far beyond the stadium bowl — creating a massive covered area visible from satellite. The adjacent Hollywood Park development (shops, residences, and a lake) surrounds the venue. The nearby LAX airport runways are visible to the west (planes regularly fly over during games). The stadium's distinctive flowing roof shape, resembling a giant sail or wave, makes it one of the most architecturally distinctive sports venues on Earth.

Additional features refine identification. Hollywood Park Casino, a card room and horse-racing simulcast facility, occupies a compact triangular building at the northwest corner of the SoFi property. The former Great Western Forum arena, still operational for concerts and boxing events, appears as a distinctive circular pavilion two kilometres east of SoFi as an unmistakable retro landmark associated with the 1980s Lakers dynasty. The Kia Forum's teal-and-white exterior contrasts with the surrounding urban grid. The Intuit Dome, home of the LA Clippers, occupies a curved diamond-shaped roof structure 1 kilometre north of SoFi as a newer 2024-opened neighbour. The Los Angeles County Century Boulevard passes immediately south of the venue as a broad palm-lined arterial connecting to LAX. The Baldwin Hills Overlook rises 500 metres to the northeast as a distinctive elevated open-space with a wooden observation deck.
