About Allegiant Stadium
Allegiant Stadium is a domed stadium located in Paradise, Nevada, adjacent to the Las Vegas Strip. Opened in 2020, it serves as the home stadium for the Las Vegas Raiders of the National Football League (NFL) and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) Rebels college football team. It is nick-named "The Death Star" by fans due to its dark, sleek, and menacing exterior.
The fully enclosed, climate-controlled venue has a capacity of 65,000, expandable to 71,835 for major events. It features a translucent roof made of ETFE and a massive sliding lanai door that opens to a view of the Las Vegas Strip. A signature 85-foot tall torch, honoring former Raiders owner Al Davis, stands inside the stadium and is the largest 3D printed object in the world.
Hosting Super Bowl LVIII in 2024, the stadium has rapidly become a premier destination for global events, including concerts and international soccer matches. Its state-of-the-art technology and luxury amenities set a new standard for sports entertainment venues in the United States.
Ownership rests with the Las Vegas Stadium Authority, a public entity established by Nevada Senate Bill 1 in October 2016 that leases the facility to Mark Davis's Raiders organisation on a 30-year term extending to 2050. The site occupies 62 acres of former private land purchased from Bali Hai Golf Club owner Billy Walters for 77.5 million dollars in 2018. The 750 million dollars of hotel-room-tax subsidy required a special two-thirds supermajority vote from the Nevada Legislature during a rare October special session, and the enabling bill included a clause preventing any Raiders relocation before 2050 without repaying the full subsidy plus interest. The venue's naming rights were sold to Allegiant Air, the ultra-low-cost carrier based in nearby Enterprise, Nevada, for a reported 25 million dollars per year across fifteen years.
