About Haneda

Tokyo International Airport, commonly known as Haneda Airport, is one of two primary airports that serve the Greater Tokyo Area. Located in Ota, Tokyo, it handles the vast majority of domestic flights to and from Tokyo as well as an increasing number of international flights. It is the hub for Japan Airlines and All Nippon Airways.

Haneda is consistently rated as one of the world's best airports for its cleanliness and efficiency. It is located much closer to central Tokyo than Narita Airport, making it the preferred choice for business travelers. The airport has three terminals, with Terminal 3 dedicated to international flights.

It operates four runways, including the recently completed D Runway which was built on a pier/island structure in Tokyo Bay to minimize environmental impact on the Tama River flow. Haneda is one of the busiest airports in the world, handling nearly 90 million passengers annually prior to the pandemic.

🛰️ Satellite Identification Tips

At zoom 12, Haneda's four runways form a distinctive right-angle pattern on a reclaimed island in Tokyo Bay—the airport literally sits on water on three sides. The D runway extends out into the bay on a dramatic pier structure visible as a thin strip over open water. The international terminal's curved roof and the older domestic terminals create a compact cluster on the west side. Tokyo's dense urban grid presses right up to the western boundary, while the bay waters to the east and south provide an unmistakable contrast. The Tama River mouth marks the southern boundary, separating Haneda from Kawasaki.
