About Camp Nou
Spotify Camp Nou is a football stadium in Barcelona, Spain. It has been the home stadium of FC Barcelona since its completion in 1957. With a seating capacity of 99,354, it is the largest stadium in Spain and Europe, and the third largest football stadium in the world in capacity. It serves as a symbol of Catalan culture and identity.
The stadium has witnessed some of the greatest moments in football history, including two UEFA Champions League finals and the football competition at the 1992 Summer Olympics. The motto "Més que un club" (More than a club) is displayed in the seats of the lateral stand. The atmosphere during "El Clásico" against Real Madrid is electric, with intricate mosaics often displayed by the fans.
Currently undergoing a massive renovation as part of the "Espai Barça" project, the stadium is being modernized to include a roof over all seats and increased capacity to over 105,000. It also houses the FC Barcelona Museum, one of the most visited museums in Catalonia. The stadium's architecture, originally designed by Francesc Mitjans, remains a landmark of the city.
The venue was inaugurated on 24 September 1957 with a friendly against Warsaw's Legia (won 4-2 by the Blaugranes) and the freehold of the 55,000-square-metre plot at Carrer d'Aristides Maillol 12 in Les Corts is owned outright by FC Barcelona as a members-owned association (soci propietari) since 1922. Under the ongoing Espai Barça masterplan approved by 87.8 per cent of members in a referendum on 6 April 2014, the complete reconstruction is being financed by a 1.45-billion-euro syndicated loan from Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan repayable over 30 years via a dedicated seat-licence revenue stream. The temporary relocation of home matches during the 2023-24 and part of 2024-25 seasons to the Olympic Stadium on Montjuïc marked the first time in 66 years that first-team La Liga games were played away from Les Corts.
